Watford, What a summer we’ve had! ☀️

It feels like only yesterday we were watching the World Cup, trying to keep cool during one of the hottest summers on record and making the most of those long, sunny evenings.

Now, somehow, we’re in September. The school holidays are over, the evenings are getting shorter and Halloween is already creeping onto the horizon.

But before we put away the picnic blankets and reach for the cosy jumpers, let’s take a look back at some of the highlights…

From heatwaves and packed parks to live music, festivals and plenty of reasons to get out and about, Watford certainly hasn’t been quiet!

We kicked things off with the Big Bandstand, bringing free live music to Cassiobury Park throughout the summer. From jazz to traditional brass bands, there’s been something for everyone.

July brought the Watford Fringe Festival, which returned for its 10th year with a whole month of comedy, music, theatre and entertainment across venues in the town.

Then it was time to get into the swing of things with Big JiveSwing, which brought a day of live music, dancing and plenty of energy to Cassiobury Park.

August turned up the entertainment with the Big Screen, giving film fans the chance to enjoy movies outdoors in both the town centre and Woodside.

And who could forget the Big Beach?! For a couple of weeks, Watford Central Library became the place to head for some sandy fun, with deckchairs, buckets, spades and plenty of space to relax.

As summer drew to a close, Cassiobury Park got a colourful makeover when Colourscape arrived, transforming the park into an immersive labyrinth of colour, light and sound.

And on the same weekend, Herts Pride brought people together to celebrate love, diversity and the LGBTQ+ community.

Safe to say, it’s been quite a summer!

So… what’s next?

Summer may be coming to an end, but that doesn’t mean the fun has to stop!

There’s still time to catch some free live music at the Big Bandstand in Cassiobury Park before the summer programme comes to a close.

And as we head into autumn, there’s still plenty to look forward to.

First up, Market Lates returns on Friday 30 October with a spooky twist, bringing tricks, treats and music to Watford Market.

Then, on Saturday 7 November, Cassiobury Park will light up for the Cassiobury Fireworks, with the free event starting at 6pm and fireworks at 7.30pm.

So, goodbye summer… but definitely not goodbye to fun in Watford!
