USING PLANES, TRAINS & AUTOMOBILES

Here’s a quick guide to help you navigate Watford, no matter how you choose to travel.

​By Road - Watford is well-connected by road, with the M1 and M25 motorways just a short drive away, providing easy access to London and other major cities. If you're heading to the town centre, follow the A411, which takes you right into the heart of Watford. There are several car parks in the town.

 

By Rail -Watford Junction is the main train station and offers excellent connections. You can catch a fast train to London Euston in just 20 minutes, perfect for commuters and day-trippers alike. If you’re exploring in the three counties, there are frequent services to nearby towns like St Albans. Watford High Street station also provides Overground services, linking you directly to North, East, West and Central London.
Located near Cassiobury park there's also the Metropolitan line station taking you all the way to London Liverpool street and Amersham.

 

Airports - Although they don’t help you get around Watford itself, the town is conveniently close to several airports with buses from Watford Junction to Luton (18 miles) & Heathrow (20 miles).  With trains linking to Stansted (40 miles), and London City (33 miles), ensuring easy air travel access.

HELPING YOU NAVIGATE THE TOWN

By Bus - Buses are a convenient way to get around, with regular services running throughout the town and beyond. Arriva and Uno buses are the main operators, offering routes that connect key areas such as Watford General Hospital, Cassiobury Park, and Watford FC’s Vicarage Road stadium. For a quick trip around the town centre, hop on the local W1 or W19 services.

By Bike - Cycling is a fantastic way to explore Watford, with several dedicated cycle paths that are safe and scenic. Ebury Way is a popular route, running along a disused railway line from Watford to Rickmansworth. Watford also has a bike-share scheme (Beryl) and cycle lanes on many of its roads, making it easier to navigate.

On Foot - Exploring Watford on foot is a wonderful way to soak up the town's atmosphere. The pedestrian-friendly town centre makes it easy to visit local shops and cafes. For a scenic walk, head to the town's award-winning parks.

Green Loop - The 6.5 mile continuous cycling and walking route encircles the town centre, and combines the town’s vibrant urban landscape, with its serene open spaces and heritage sites.
