Launching in May 2025, Watford Borough Council’s brand-new digital heritage trails that let you explore the town’s rich history on the go.
Created in partnership with the TrailTale app, these free, self-guided walks take you on a journey through Watford’s cultural landmarks with fascinating facts, historic photos, and powerful stories that bring our heritage to life.
You’ll also discover inspiring tales celebrating the individuals who helped shape the town we know today. Whether you’re a local or just visiting, it’s the perfect way to clock up your 10,000 steps while learning something new.
This exciting initiative is part of our mission to reimagine how we share heritage—making it more fun, accessible, and connected to our community. So grab your phone, download the app, and see Watford’s history in a whole new way!
WATFORD'S WALKING TALE PICTURE COMPETITION
As you enjoy the new digital heritage trails, we want to know which building or landmark you found the most interesting.
Draw a picture of your favourite location along the route and share it with us by emailing
We’ll feature selected entries on our social media and every submission will be entered into a prize draw to win one of four £25 Watford Gift Cards, kindly donated by Watford Town Cente BID. Winners will be selected at random, with the draw supervised by an independent person on 2 June 2025.
The competition opens at midnight on 26 May 2025 and closes at midnight on 1 June 2025. So, grab your pencils, explore the trail, and show us your favourite spot from Watford’s rich heritage!
